HBC Blogger Awards // I have been shortlisted!

SO MUCH EXCITEMENT!

I have been lucky enough to be shortlisted for the Health Bloggers Community Health Blog Awards this year! 🥑 I launched Taste & See almost two years ago on 1 August 2016, during my ‘first year’ of studying Dietetics at the University of Pretoria, and at the time I’m pretty sure that my mom was the only one who read the blog! The idea behind Taste & See was to share as I learnt more about nutrition, along with easy, simple, healthy, affordable recipes that could be accessible to all. I also wanted to share evidence-based nutrition-related information in order to tackle some of the nonsense that is out there.

At the time though, my relationship with food wasn’t great. Although I wasn’t in the most ‘restrictive’, orthorexic stage of my life, I still had millions of food rules, steered 1000 miles away from gluten, and didn’t have a great body image. Over the years I have been able to develop a better relationship with food as I’ve learnt more about nutrition and have come in contact with some amazing HAES and intuitive eating advocates through social media (@laurathomasphd@hgoodrichrd@zoe.dietitian.lovewhatyoueat@20somethingnutrition were some of the first). I hope that this in combination with the wealth of knowledge that I have acquired in the areas of food and nutrition will allow me to help others find joy, pleasure, and normality in the way that they interact with and relate to food.

Since starting my blog, I have had the opportunity to write for some amazing platforms including Glow Gathering, which has allowed to share my work with a much wider audience than I could have ever expected. I have also been able to meet some AMAZING people, both virtually and in real life, from all over the world. My studies and ‘career’ have taken many twists and turns, but I’m excited to work in the world of science and nutrition when I get my degree (despite the fact that the misinformation out there can be frustrating at times). Thank you all for your love and support this far! I can't wait to see how Taste & See will grow and evolve in the future.
